Itinerary:
SAFARIDAY 1. Our minibus will come 9.00 in the Ruka area if needed. On the way to huskyfarm we will pick up overalls & boots and then transport to the Erä-Susi huskyfarm in Ruka (consist over 200 dogs). First you will meet the guides and we will walk around the farm and meeting the dogs. We start with instruction, riding lesson and safety lesson. You will learn how to handle the sledge, how to do the right knots and so. Then harnessing the dogs and we are ready to start our 5-days adventure. Riding about 29 km very moderate terrain, ups and downs. Coming to our overnight place, a wooden cottage called WOLF´S TAIL; consist of a big room 6-8 beds, little room (dobble bed), kitchen, indoor toilet and sauna with shower. First we will be chaining the dogs for the night, feeding them and giving little massage. After that sauna, dinner and rest.
SAFARIDAY 2. First thing in the morning you will give drink to the dogs. After that having your own breakfast. Then harnessing the dogs for the day´s riding about 34 km. Also moderate terrain, crossing few roads and crossing a river by the bridge and travelling deeper to the wilderness. Coming to accommodation place called Isokenkäisten klubi ,“A Club for the Big Shoe People”, when the evening comes you will know what that means… So we stay overnight only 2 km from the Russian Frontier Zone. Double rooms, inside toilets, sauna and showers. But first the normal routine with the dogs…Chaining the dogs for the night, feeding them and giving little massage. After that sauna and perhaps winter swimming in a lake… dinner and rest.
SAFARIDAY 3. First thing in the morning you will give drink to the dogs. After that having your own breakfast. Then harnessing the dogs and the safariday will begin. Riding 27 km crossing a very big frozen lake. If the weather turns really bad, we will take different route in the forest. Our Wolf´s Tail-cabin is waiting for us. But first the normal routine with the dogs….Then put the fire to the fireplace and heat up the sauna …
SAFARIDAY 4. This is the day to “Take It Easy” - if you like. We will be riding about 16 - 25 km easy going trail and stop for a pause and make a fire to grill some sausages and having a warm drink. But if you like, you can stay in the cabin or try some snowshoes on the nearby lake.
SAFARIDAY 5. Our last day with huskies… Heading back to huskyfarm in Ruka; a route about 31 km. Ending the tour to ERÄ-SUSI husky farm, unharness the dogs and giving the thanks to your new best friends and transport to your accommodation.
